Ye ún de los conceyos con menor población de toa Asturies. Como'l restu de zones rurales asturianes la evolución demográfica del conceyu ye negativa. Nel [[sieglu XX]] hubo dos periodos nos que perdió gran parte de la so población. El primeru va de [[1900]] a [[1930]], onde gran parte de los sos habitantes emigró a [[América]], sobremanera a [[Cuba]], [[Puerto Rico]], [[Arxentina]] y [[República Dominicana]]. El segundu en [[1960]] por mor de la industrialización del país, que motivó que'l conceyu perdiere cásique les dos terceres partes de la so población.
