El llugar aú s'axunten los dos brazos del ríu Nilu ye conocíu como ''al-Mogran'' (المقرن, la confluencia); dende elli el [[ríu Nilu]], ya un únicu cursu d'agua, sigue hacia'l norte, travesando [[Exiptu]] hasta desaguar nel [[mar Mediterraneu]].
Ḥartum forma parte d'una metrópolis tripartita que tien una población conxunta de unos cinco millones d'habitantes: esta fórmenla, aparte de Ḥartum, [[Ḥartum Norte]] (الخرطوم بحري, ''al-Kharṭūm Baḥrī''), asitiada al norte, y [[Omdurmán]] (أم درمان ''Umm Durmān''), asitiada al oeste.
