Biografía editar

El so verdaderu nome yera Helen Virginia Briggs, y nació en Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bruce empezó la so carrera interpretativa desempeñando pequeños papeles en Hollywood en 1929. En 1930 actuó en Broadway nel musical Smiles, y en 1931 en America's Sweetheart.

Bruce volvió a Hollywood en 1932, onde se casó con John Gilbert, el co-protagonista de la so película Downstairs. Tres la nacencia de la so fía Susan Ann Gilbert, ella retiróse mientres un tiempu. La pareya divorciar en 1934, y Virginia volvió actuar nel cine. En 1936, añu de la muerte de Gilbert, Bruce interpretó'l cantar de Cole Porter "I've Got You Under My Skin" nel filme Born to Dance, y trabayó nel musical de MGM The Great Ziegfeld.

Virginia casóse col direutor cinematográficu J. Walter Ruben en 1937, rodando xuntos esi añu'l western interpretáu por Wallace Beery The Bad Man of Brimstone. Tuvieron un fíu llamáu Christopher, pero Ruben finó en 1942. En 1946 casóse con Ali Ipar, de quien se divorció en 1951, casándose dambos nuevamente en 1952. Les sos últimes actuaciones pal cine fueron Strangers When We Meet (Un estrañu na mio vida) (1960) y Madame Wang's (1981).

Virginia Bruce finó por causa de un cáncer en Woodland Hills (Los Angeles), California, en 1982.
