Avinger practices cone drills during physical therapy in the Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care facility at Naval Medical Center San Diego with physical therapist assistant Kristin Valente. Avinger lost his right leg during a motor vehicle accident in Oct. 2009 while stationed at Naval Base Guam. He has been receiving care at NMCSD since Nov. 2009.
