Fritz Leiber

Fritz Reuter Leiber Jr. (24 d'avientu de 1910, Chicago – 5 de setiembre de 1992, San Francisco)[4][5] foi un novelista y cuentista estauxunidense de los xéneros de fantasía, terror y ciencia ficción. Les sos noveles de ciencia ficción El gran momentu (The Big Time, 1958) y El planeta errante (The Wanderer, 1964) y los cuentos "Faigamos rodar los güesos" ("Gonna Roll the Bones", 1967), sobre un tahúr que xuega a los dados cola muerte, y "Nave de solombres" ("Ship of Shadows", 1970) apurriéron-y dellos Premiu Hugo y Nébula.

Biografía editar

Yera fíu d'actores shakespeareanos y na so infancia amosóse esteláu pel mundu del teatru, que depués describiría en rellatos como "Non Great Magic" y "Four Ghosts in Hamlet". De la mesma, concibió a un actor y productor teatral como protagonista de la so novela A Specter is Haunting Texas. Un elementu interesante de la so novela The Big Time ye que tola aición tien llugar nuna pequeña burbuya d'espaciu-tiempu totalmente aisllada y que ye del tamañu averáu d'un escenariu teatral, cuntando amás con unos pocos personaxes.

La parte más importante de la obra de Leiber constituyir los rellatos curtios, especialmente del xéneru de terror. Por histories como "La moza de los güeyos afamiaos" ("The Girl With the Hungry Eyes") y "You're All Alone" ("Tas solu"), Leiber ye consideráu como unu de los precursores del rellatu urbanu de terror moderno. Nos sos últimos años, Leiber retomó la so afición al cuentu de terror en trabayos como Horrible Imaginings (Fantasíes terroríficas), "Black Has Its Charms" ("Los sos escuros encantos") y el premiáu "The Button Moulder" ("El botonista").

Ente los sos más celebraes obres atopen los cuentos de la serie Fafhrd y el Ratoneru Gris, escritos a lo llargo de 50 años. Estes histories pueden considerase precursores de los rellatos modernos de fantasía heroica. Leiber escribió otros estensos seriales de cuentos, a los que tituló Gummitch y Change War.

L'autor casar en 1936 con Jonquil Stephens y tuvieron un fíu. La muerte de la so muyer en 1969 llevar al alcoholismu, pero consiguió refaese pa escribir la novela de fantasía ambientada nel modernu San Francisco: Our Lady of Darkness (La nuesa Señora de la Escuridá). El premiáu rellatu de ciencia ficción "Catch that Zeppelin!" (1975) propón mundos paralelos alternativos, preferibles con muncho al mundu real.

Leiber tuvo bien influyíu por H. P. Lovecraft y Robert Graves nos dos primeres décades de la so carrera. A partir de los años 50 sintióse esteláu por Carl Jung, especialmente polos sos conceutos de ánima y solombra, que Leiber menta abiertamente nes sos histories.

Nos sos últimos años de vida, Leiber volvió casase con una amiga periodista. Los derechos cobraos por Dungeons & Dragons, un xuegu de rol basáu nos mitos de la serie Fafhrd y el Ratoneru Gris, dexáron-y una esistencia sele y folgosa hasta'l fin de los sos díes.

Leiber morrió nel viaxe de vuelta d'una convención de ciencia ficción celebrada en Toronto. La causa foi certificada como de muerte por edá.

Escritos críticos de Leiber pueden atopase en Fafhrd and Me (1990), publicáu por Wildside Press. Leiber finó en 1992, pero los rellatos y les noveles que dexó escrites son un verdaderu legáu pa tolos entusiastes de la ciencia ficción, el terror y la fantasía.
