El presidente ye escoyíu pola Asamblea Nacional por un periodu de cinco años. Ye un cargu fundamentalmente ceremonial que foi creáu en 1992 dempués de que Mauriciu fuera declarada una república. Reemplazó l'antiguu rol de los Gobernadores xenerales, representante del monarca.
