Empezó la so carrera nos escenarios irlandeses y más tarde camudóse a Londres. Na década de 1970 figuró en munches producciones pa televisión. Yera sicasí práuticamente desconocida pal públicu non británicu hasta que llogró'l Óscar a la meyor actriz de repartu por My Left Foot en 1989.
Fricker casóse con Barrie Davies, del qu'enviudó en 1990.[3]
