Nacíu nel senu d'una familia de fe mormona de Glenwood (Utah), siendo moza Acord trabayó como cowboy. En 1912 ganó'l campeonatu de valtamientu de novillos, repitiendo como campeón en 1916, ganando al so amigu Hoot Gibson.
