BY Bootis (BY Boo / HD 123657 / HR 5299)^[9] ye una estrella variable na constelación de Boötes, asitiada cuasi na llende cola vecina Canes Venatici. De magnitú aparente media +5,22, alcuéntrase a 474 años lluz de distancia del Sistema Solar.^[10]

Coordenaes: 14^h 7^m 55.756^s, 43^° 51^′ 16.026^″

BY Bootis ye una xigante colorada de tipu espectral M4.5III^[9] con una temperatura efectivo de 3235 ± 8 K.^[11] La so lluminosidá bolométrica —enerxía radiada en toles llonxitúes d'onda— ye 1350 vegaes superior a la del Sol^[12] y la so masa puede ser aproximao'l doble de la masa solar.^[13] Tien una metalicidá —bayura relativa d'elementos más pesaos que'l heliu— equivalente a 2/3 partes de l'atopada nel Sol ([Fe/H] = -0,20).^[11] Pela so parte, amuesa ciertu arriquecimientu en neodimiu y circoniu al respective de los valores solares.^[13]

La midida del so diámetru angular en banda V, teniendo en cuenta'l escurecimientu de llimbu, ye de 7,44 ± 0,11 milisegundos d'arcu;^[14] en banda K, felicidá midida da un valor inferior de 7,00 milisegundos d'arcu.^[15] Rellacionando la primera de les midíes cola distancia a la que s'atopa, puede conocese el so diámetru real, siendo ésti unes 115 vegaes más grande que'l diámetru solar.

BY Bootis una variable irregular de tipu LB; éstes son variables lentes de tipu espectral tardíu, ente les que cabe solliñar a Tejat Posterior (μ Cephei) y ψ Virginis. El rellumu de BY Bootis varia ente magnitú +4,98 y +5,33, ensin que se pudiera reconocer periodu dalgunu.^[16]
