Biografía y carrera editar
James S. Tolkan nació en Calumet (Michigan), el so padre, Ralph M. Tolkan, yera un comerciante de ganáu.[3] Tolkan allegó a la Universidá d'Iowa, al colexu d'arte Coe College, al Actors Studio y al Eastern Arizona College.[4] Tolkan ye conocíu pola so interpretación na famosa triloxía de Back to the Future, como'l direutor Strickland del institutu de Hill Valley. Na primer película siempres se refería a Marty McFly y al so padre, George McFly, como "vagos". Tamién apaeció en Back to the Future II (1989) y Back to the Future III (1990), nesta última película faía'l papel del güelu del mesmu Sr. Strickland. Anque tamién apaeció n'otres películes como Top Gun, Xuegos de Guerra y Masters del universu.
Tolkan tamién fixo apaiciones como convidáu en munchos programes de televisión, incluyendo Naked City (Ciudá desnuda), Remington Steele, Miami Vice, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, y un miembru del repertoriu en A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2001-2002), él interpretó más d'una docena de papeles variaos na serie de TV A&Y y tamién dirixó dos episodios de A Nero Wolfe Mystery (dirixó los episodios Muerre como un perru y El siguiente testigu). Tolkan anguaño vive en Lake Placid, Nueva York.
