Biografía editar

Lucy Aikin nació nuna familia lliteraria. El so padre, el Dr. John Aikin, yera doctor en medicina, historiador y escritor, y la so tía, Anna Laetitia Barbauld tamién yera escritora y crítica del sistema educativu. Lucy foi educada sol so tutela, y "lleía lliteratura y hestoria n'inglés, francés, italianu y llatín".^[3] Lucy empezó a escribir artículos pa revistes a los diecisiete años d'edá,^[4] amás d'asistir al so padre como editoria de los sos llibros.^[5] Lucy taba interesada na educación de neños pequeños, polo que publicó dellos llibros col propósitu d'asistir a los llectores nuevos: Poetry for Children: Consisting of Short Pieces to be Committed to Memory (1801), Juvenile Correspondence or Letters, Designed as Examples of the Epistolary Style, for Children of Both Sexes (1811), An English Lesson Book, for the Junior Classes (1828), y The Acts of Life: of Providing Food, of Providing Clothing, of Providing Shelter (1858).

Aikin tamién foi responsable por un númberu de traducciones de llibros franceses: la obra de Louis Francois Jauffret The Travels of Rolando (publicada escontra 1804), y el llibru de Jean Gaspard Hess The Life of Ulrich Zwingli (1812).
