Primeros años y educación editar
Banks nació en Pittsfield, Massachusetts, como la mayor de los cuatro fíos d'Ann y Mark Mitchell.[4] El so padre yera obreru nuna fábrica de General Electric y la so madre, hasta apocayá tiempu, trabayó nun bancu.[5] Cuando yera neña, participó nel programa de xuegos de Nickelodeon Finders Keepers. Banks camudó'l so nome pa evitar tracamundiu cola actriz Elizabeth Mitchell.[6] Debutó como actriz na película independiente Surrender Dorothy como Elizabeth Casey. Banks ye reconocida polos sos papeles en Seabiscuit, Heights, les películes de Spiderman (onde interpreta a Betty Brant), y la comedia de cultu Wet Hot American Summer. Rápido empezó a adquirir fama por películes como The 40-Year-Old Virgin y Slither. Tamién interpretó a la novia de Mark Wahlberg na película de 2006 Invincible.
En mayu de 2006, apaeció nel últimu episodiu de la quinta temporada de la serie de la NBC Scrubs como la Dra. Kim Briggs, la novia de J.D. (Zach Braff). El personaxe apaeció recurrentemente mientres la sesta y la séptima temporada.

En 2007, Banks interpretó'l papel protagonista femenín na comedia Meet Bill, xunto a Aaron Eckhart y Jessica Alba. Banks tamién tuvo un papel menor na comedia navidiega de 2007 Fred Claus, co-protagonizada por Vince Vaughn y Paul Giamatti, y actuó na comedia de 2008 Definitely, Maybe xunto a Isla Fisher y Ryan Reynolds.
Banks protagonizó con Seth Rogen la comedia de Kevin Smith Zack and Miri make a porno, que foi estrenada n'ochobre de 2008. Apaeció nel thriller The Uninvited, y tamién como l'antigua Primer Dama d'Estaos Xuníos Laura Bush na película d'Oliver Stone sobre la vida de George W. Bush, W.[7]

El 5 de xunetu de 2003, Banks casóse con Max Handelman, que fuera'l so noviu dende la universidá.[8] Convirtióse al xudaísmu depués de casase con él.[9] Tienen dos fíos, Felix (2011) y Magnus (2012).
