Vida y carrera editar

Mitchell nació en Nueva Zelanda en 1940, y camudóse a Inglaterra en 1944. Asistió al St Anne's College de Oxford, onde realizó estudios de grau n'Inglés, desenvolviendo tamién trabayos de posgráu. Enseñó Lliteratura inglesa dende 1962 hasta 1970 na Universidá de Leeds y na Universidá de Reading.[7]

En 1962 casóse col historiador marxista inglés Perry Anderson, que nesi momentu trabayaba pa la New Left Review.[8] Na década de los '60, Mitchell foi una activa progresista,[9] y participó del comité editorial de la influyente Revista de la nueva esquierda.[10]

Foi miembru del Jesus College (Cambridge) y profesora de psicoanálisis y estudios de xéneru na Universidá de Cambridge, en 2010 foi nomada Direutora del Programa de Doctoráu n'Estudios Psiocoanáliticos del Área d'Estudios de Psicoanálisis del University College de Londres (UCL).[11]
